Saturday, October 19th from 9:00 a.m. – noon approximately 23 children came to go fishing on the pier at the Curtis Merritt Harbor of Refuge with Harbormaster Vernon Merritt. The day began with fishing where several flounder were caught, some tagged and released to be caught again later by someone else. The U.S. Coastguard Sector Field Office Chincoteague crew on their 47′ patrol boat, arrived and allowed the children to tour the boat. Later a hamburger and hotdog lunch was served. Harbormaster Merritt presented each child with a t-shirt for attending. A fantastic day was had by all thanks to the parents, grandparents, volunteers, the Town’s Harbor Committee and Harbormaster Merritt.
